PETROL:
NEW INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
CONNECTIONS ESTABLIShED
The Slovenian EU Council Presidency is an
important upgrade of international activities of
our country in the political and economic sense.
It is an important fact that Slovenia thus joined
those countries not only capable of taking over
and carrying out the EU Council Presidency, but,
more importantly, knowing how to influence
some decisions of the Union and opening up
dialogue on important issues. One of these issues
is European energy policy and climate change.
Any measures taken in this field are important for
the further strategic plans of energy companies.
For Petrol, as well.
We are pleased that broad discussion on
environment protection and sustainable
development at the EU level was carried out
during the Slovenian Presidency. In Petrol, we are
also aware of the importance of measures to be
taken for reducing the emissions of greenhouse
gases. Therefore, we have for some time been
the initiator of a search for alternative energy
sources, and environmental responsibility is
one of the basic strategic commitments of
our activity. The Slovenian EU Presidency has
opened up many opportunities for dialogue,
both with representatives of the political world
and with representatives from the economy.
We may certainly not neglect the creation of
new international business connections, which
would have been established with more difficulty
without the Presidency, and, above all, a lot later.
In Petrol, we did not expect any direct influence
from the Presidency on the company’s business
performance; however, we took the opportunity
for domestic and international promotion of
the company and management. Some indirect
opportunities were also identified by our
subsidiaries.
We also welcome the adopted commitments
of the European Union for the Balkan region,
which were adopted during our Presidency. That
is, Petrol seeks to become one of the central
energy companies in this region and to have the
role of an equal partner with other international
consortiums. Therefore, improved stability and
comprehensive development in the region
contribute significantly to the attractiveness and
reliability of the market, which will be suitable for
long-term cooperation and investment risk.
Slovenia was the first among new the Member
States to preside over the European Union, and
we are convinced that it has set standards and
a good example to the rest of the countries that
still await this important task, of how to accept
its challenges and how to justify confidence, not
only for the country and politicians, but also for
citizens and companies.
